Skygems

Our Own Observatories

Skygems observatories are sites we own, operate, and maintain directly — located in some of the world's premier dark-sky regions. We handle the hardware, maintenance, and uptime so you can focus entirely on your science.

OpenSkygems

Observatories by Independent Owners

OpenSkygems observatories are privately owned telescopes and setups offered through our platform by independent astronomy enthusiasts and professionals. You book them the same way — with transparent, per-second pricing — while the owners earn revenue by sharing their equipment with the global community.

Why Skygems

Features

Fully Automated

The observatories are heavily automated to use the nights as effectively as possible. Simply insert the targets you want imaged, and the system chooses the ideal moment to gather your data.

Perfect Locations

Our remote telescopes sit in some of the darkest, most pristine locations on Earth. In Namibia alone we enjoy over 300 clear nights per year with exceptional seeing.

Professional Network

Built by astronomers. Trusted by astronomers. The remote telescope network that takes the night seriously. Professional observatories. Transparent pricing. A community that cares about the data — not just the hype.

Price

We do want to give everybody the possibility to use these professional-grade systems.

Lukas Demetz, founder

Rates are per hour of observatory usage, calculated to per-second accuracy. The usage begins when the camera opens the shutter for your frame and ends when it closes — you pay only for exposure time. Nothing for focusing, nothing for slewing.

Smaller scopes have lower rates. Scheduling under moonlight gives a discount of up to 40%. Fixed-time requests carry an additional 30% surcharge.
